The Person You Call When the Wi-Fi Dies
Every family has one. The cousin who gets phoned on Sunday evenings because the printer stopped working, or the router is blinking red, or Dad has somehow changed the language on his phone to something nobody can read. Tech Agent is basically that person, except you can look things up at midnight without feeling like you’re bothering anyone.
How It Got Going
I won’t pretend there was a grand plan. A few of us were tired of answering the same questions over and over. How do I back up my photos? Why is my laptop so slow? Is this email a scam? We started writing the answers down so we could send a link instead of explaining everything again. People we’d never met began finding those pages, and here we are.
What We Write About
Everyday stuff, mostly. Phones and laptops, apps that are worth the trouble, settings you didn’t know existed, and what to do when something breaks. We also write quite a bit about staying safe online, because a lot of people get caught out by fake messages and links that look real. If you’ve ever stared at a screen thinking “I’m sure this was working yesterday,” you’re our kind of reader.
How We Try to Keep Things Useful
We keep the explanations short and write them in the order you’d actually do them. No long introductions, no five-paragraph history of the technology. Where we can, we try the steps ourselves first. Sometimes menus change after an update and our instructions go out of date, and when someone tells us, we fix the page.
What We’re Not
We aren’t a repair shop, and we can’t look at your device. We can’t log into your accounts, recover lost files, or fix a broken screen. We’re also not connected to any phone maker, software company, or shop that we mention. Brand names are only there so you know what we’re talking about. If you’re stuck with a faulty device, the maker’s official support is the place to go.
A Fair Warning
Different phones and computers do things slightly differently, so a guide that works perfectly on one might need a small tweak on another. Before you change anything important, back up your files. We’d hate for a how-to to cost you your holiday photos.
Why You Can Trust Us (Or Not Blindly)
We don’t want blind trust. Check what we say if something doesn’t feel right. We’re happy to be corrected, and we’d rather hear about a mistake from you than leave it sitting on the page for months.
